Why this blog? and what is it?

The World of Greyhawk was my first introduction to the roleplaying games in general and AD&D 1st Edition specifically.  There is a certain amount of nostalgia and emotion tied up in the first time you discover something new, and this is not different.  I am not going to tell you that the World of Greyhawk (tWoG) is the best fantasy setting of all time just that it is my favorite.  There is something magical, for me anyway, when I talk about Iuz, The Temple of Elemental Evil, Hommlet, or Tharizdun.  It conjures up memories of my misspent youth in my childhood home reading and dreaming of all things Greyhawk.  So that is the why.

But what about the what?  Well there are a ton of Greyhawk blogs, some listed below:

These are all great blogs with a lot of information on Greyhawk.  But what I want to do is focus on playing in the World of Greyhawk using miniatures because that is how it all started.  Hopefully anyone reading this blog finds this a little interesting!

Greyhawk is a lot of things to a lot of people, and in reality you are dealing with different settings depending on when you decide to run your campaign.  To me the original and true Greyhawk is that of 576CY and that is what this blog will focus on first and if I actually continue with the blog I will hopefully get to all the other stuff set after 576CY.  But for now I want to focus on the original 1st Edition version of Greyhawk.

My first goal is to go through all the original modules, listed below, and compile a list of all the miniatures you would need to actually run them as is.
  • A1, A2, A3, and A4
  • B1
  • C1, C2, and C6
  • D1, D2, and D3
  • EX1 and EX2
  • G1, G2, and G3
  • I1 and I2
  • L1, L2, and L3 (yes L3 was published later but still counts as 1st Edition)
  • N1
  • Q1
  • S1, S2, S3, and S4
  • T1-4
  • U1, U2, and U3
  • UK1, UK2, UK3, UK4, and UK6
  • WG4, WG5, and WG6
That will cover all of the official modules published by TSR while Gary Gygax was still employed by TSR.
